• Why is 3D Design and Printing Important for Kids and Adults?

Learning 3D design and printing empowers kids and adults to turn creative ideas into real, functional objects and models while building confidence in the process. It also develops practical skills such as problem-solving, spatial thinking, product design, animation and engineering through hands-on experimentation, testing, and improving each creation. These skills support future opportunities in fields like art, technology, manufacturing, architecture, marketing and product design.

• What to Expect in Class

Future 3D designers of any age will get a similar experience in our classes with a few differences.  All classes are designed to introduce learners to:

1) 3D Designing Using Free Tinkercad App - Tinkercad (by Autodesk) is a web based application which is the best app for new learners. Anything beyond Tinkercad (like AutoCAD and Fusion) qualifies as professional/industrial design software which is more capable, but often prohibitively expensive to use and enters another category of professional training. 

We will create a student Tinkercad for you to use in class and at home or anywhere with internet access and a browser. Some personal projects may require extra design time at home.

2) In Class Projects Completed and Printed - You'll slowly ramp up your knowledge and skills through completing a series of fun and/or useful projects.Everyone will take some some printed versions of their designs. We want you to not only have fun designing, but also feel the excitement and accomplishment of holding a tangible product in your hands!

3) Getting Started with 3D Printing at Home - We use Bambu Labs printer and slicing software in the studio. We've found it's generally the easiest and most reliable to use. Everyone will learn about the printing process (going from design, to export to, slice and print) to understand how it all works. 

• What's Different between Youth and Adult 3D classes?

While most of the learned skills are shared regardless of age, the main difference is in what we coose to design. Youth classes tend to focus on designing fun items like 3D modeling,  personalized key chains, and bookmarks.

Adult classes include more useful items like organizers and household items like shower curtain hooks or light switch plate covers. We may also be able to help you with your personal project.

Adults will also receive extra information and a QnA session all about buying and setting up your at-home printer. This includes discussing what 3D printer fits your needs, setup tips, understanding the different types of filaments with their uses and other important considerations. Regardless of age, we're confident any beginning learner will get alot from our 3D Design and Printing program.

• What's Provided?

We provide everything! Our goal is to get everyone a solid head start to designing and prnting at home. You'll use our workstations, software and anything else needed to produce your creations. We also have a water cooler and some snacks in case you want to take a break.

Most importantly, you just have to come with a willingness to learn new, exciting and life changing skills.

For kids, we integrate some 3D design and printing into our core curriculum and occasionally offer 3D design workshops which you can check here.

For adults, we offer several classes in both weekly and "bootcamp" single-day formats which you can find here.
